This May, the iconic Granville Hotel proudly celebrates 45 years of ownership by the Cusack Family, marking an extraordinary milestone in the story of one of Waterford's most treasured establishments.
Since opening the hotel in 1980, the Cusack family has preserved the Granville’s timeless charm while continuously enhancing its service, standards, and facilities. Their vision has been guided by a deep commitment to quality, traditional Irish hospitality, and a heartfelt dedication to supporting Waterford City through employment, community partnerships, and cultural engagement.
The Granville’s story is richly woven into Ireland’s heritage. It is the birthplace of Thomas Francis Meagher, Irish patriot and creator of the national flag, and formerly the headquarters of Charles Bianconi, pioneer of public transport in Ireland. Today, the hotel proudly holds its place in the Historic Hotels of Europe collection, and was awarded the prestigious Gold Historic City Hotel of Europe Award in November 2024.
To mark this special occasion, a commemorative 45th Anniversary flag will fly proudly outside the hotel. A range of celebratory events and some very special promotions are also planned:
- From May-August Afternoon Tea for Two in the elegant Bianconi Restaurant will be just €45, including a Summer Cocktail.
- A specially created Granville 45 Cocktail available in the Thomas Francis Meagher Bar all summer long.
- On Friday, 9th May, WLR FM’s The Spin Home will broadcast live from outside the Granville Hotel with their eco-friendly outside broadcast unit – offering listeners a chance to win exclusive hotel prizes that day.
- On Saturday May 24th there will be a special breakfast fundraiser for the hotels 2025 Charity of the Year which is the Waterford Hospice.
At the heart of the hotel’s success is its dedicated team, whose passion and professionalism continue to deliver warm and memorable guest experiences. Many team members have built long-standing careers at the Granville, and the hotel’s reputation as a Great Place to Work has been nationally recognised.
“This anniversary is a celebration of the people of Waterford, our wonderful team, and the guests who have made the Granville Hotel part of their lives,” said the Cusack family. “We are incredibly proud to be part of Waterford’s story, and we look forward to continuing this journey for many more years to come.”
