Aware volunteers come from all walks of life, representing a diverse range of ages and backgrounds.
Many are inspired to volunteer through their own personal experience with mental illness, or through supporting loved ones. Others choose to get involved out of a desire to contribute to the community, deepen their knowledge of mental health, develop new skills, or simply make meaningful connections.
Currently recruiting volunteers for:
Support Line: The Aware Support Line is a crucial service providing callers with telephone support and information about issues relating to their own mood or the mood of a friend or family member who may be experiencing depression, bipolar disorder or other mood related conditions. It operates 365 days a year from 10am-10pm.
Support & Self Care Groups: Safe spaces where people living with depression and bipolar disorder can connect and share experiences. Groups meet virtually via Zoom and phone-in, with in-person options in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Kerry, and Waterford.
What we’re looking for: Compassionate individuals with strong communication skills, a genuine passion for mental health, and a willingness to give approximately 3 hours per week. Volunteers must be comfortable using technology and able to participate in ongoing training. Volunteers must be over 21, and remote volunteering is fully supported.
Volunteers undergo thorough training to equip them with the skills to respond empathetically and effectively, guided by Aware’s ethos and policies. Aware takes pride in its volunteer programme and has been awarded the Investing in Volunteers Award, a mark of excellence in volunteer management.
Stephen McBride, Director of Services at Aware, said, “People volunteer for many different reasons. For some, it’s a way to give back and make a meaningful difference. For others, it’s an opportunity to learn new skills or deepen their existing knowledge. It’s also a chance to be part of a supportive and caring community. Whatever your motivation, we’d love to hear from you.”
