Jonathan Earl has 25 years experience in the media industry. He is founder of and partner at B2B Communications, a full service marketing company based in Waterford City. He has been active in Waterford Chamber since 1996 and currently represents Chambers Ireland on the Programme Monitoring Committee of the Ireland Wales programme 2014–2020. Jonathan is married to Karen Cheevers (partner at B2B Communications) and father to two children. He is a keen hockey player and also coaches hockey at a number of levels.
Danette Connolly has been in business since 1999. Over this time she ran a Nursing Agency for 10 years and her current businesses are Home Instead Senior Care and The NAS Centre. Danette first qualified as a nurse in New Zealand and then gained post graduate qualifications in Nurse Management and Nurse Education in Australia. Danette has had a long standing commitment to promoting health awareness in the business community and amongst those who care for seniors. At present, she is Chairperson of Waterford Hospice Movement and on the Board of Respond Support.
Originally from Cork, John moved to Waterford in 1996 with AIB, having worked previously in Kerry and has held a number of different management roles in Waterford & The South East Region. In November last, he returned from New Ross where he served as Branch Manager for the last four years, to take up a senior position as Branch Manager with responsibility for AIB the Quay, AIB Lisduggan and AIB WIT Campus branch. A graduate of the IMI with a Hons. Degree in Management, John was also President of New Ross & District Chamber in 2017, having served on its Board since 2013, as well as being involved in South East Chamber activities.
Derek founded Almega Business Consulting in 2011 and over the last 7 years has grown the business from a startup to an established business in Ireland and the South East. Derek is a member of the Institute of Directors and is a non-executive director of three SMEs in Ireland, two of which are long-established Waterford businesses. Derek is completing the final part of the Chartered Director programme in the autumn of 2018. Derek’s previous community involvement includes being a coach/committee member for the recently formed Tramore RFC and also Railway Union RFC. Derek has also participated in SME focus groups for the Small Firms Association.
Martina Curtin is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and is working with PwC since 2001, having graduated with a BSc in Accounting from UCC. Martina became an Audit Director with PwC in 2017. She works in the Assurance line of service, auditing clients in the Food, Agri-business and Pharmaceutical sectors and she is a key member of the PwC Retail & Consumer specialist industry group. She brings international experience to the Waterford Chamber having completed a number of secondments in the USA with PwC. She has experience working on audits of plcs and large multinational companies in Ireland and coordinating audits of foreign subsidiaries. She also has a staff management role within PwC.
Brian is an Executive Director with EY in Waterford. Brian graduated from WIT with a degree in Accounting and went on to complete his Chartered Accountant qualification with Chartered Accountants Ireland. He is currently a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and a member of Chartered Professional Accountants Canada. He began his career with MK Brazil in 2003. In 2007 Brian moved to Vancouver, Canada, spending 9 years working with Deloitte. He has worked on a range of financing transactions and acquisitions and has also spent time working with Deloitte’s Canadian National office. Having returned to Ireland in 2016, Brian continues to reintegrate to life in Waterford.
Ciarán Cullen has been a Director of Waterford City Enterprise Centre for the past nine years and is part of the team that formed the €1.7m NDRC at ArcLabs Enterprise Investment Accelerator. He is a member of the Waterford Chamber of Commerce Connectivity, Infrastructure & Development Policy Advisory Panel; is a Founding Director of the Crystal Valley Tech group, a partner in early stage portable software company Handheld Technologies Ltd and an international mentor to start-up companies in Hungary, Romania and Spain as part of the European Commissions eDigiregion programme. If elected, Ciarán will take the opportunity to strengthen the business environment for new enterprises, especially focusing on building on Waterford’s potential competitive advantages in the emerging Tech sector.
Kathryn Kiely is co-owner and director of Glazik Ltd. With offices in Waterford and Nördlingen, Germany, Glazik is an established supplier of manufacturing process equipment and services into the pharmaceutical, food/beverage and industrial sectors. Kathryn has worked closely with Waterford Chamber for the last 6 year, as a member of the Jobs Enterprise & Innovation Committee, the Executive Committee and also as a board member. Prior to her current role she worked as Head of Industry Services in Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) where she played a significant role in developing and managing the Institute’s research, innovation and enterprise development programmes. Throughout her time in WIT she actively engaged with many regional and national stakeholders in promoting Waterford as an investment location and on enhancing the research and innovation support offerings available to entrepreneurs and start-up businesses.
Kieran is Managing Director of the Munster Express newspaper, a family run business celebrating over 150 years in business. Kieran has over 20 years senior management experience and has an interest in reviving Waterford with a new positive strategy. Kieran has served as a Director of Waterford Chamber since 2012 and sits on the Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Policy Advisory Panel.
Niall is currently Owner/Director of: Metalman Engineering Ltd which manufactures steel discs for the export market since 1981, employing seven staff; Air products plc gases distribution and selling of specialist gases for industrial/Pharma/Food in the southeast region; Storage City Ltd, a property and storage company with two sites in Waterford since 1998. Niall has vast knowledge of the business world in every aspect, travelled the world to trade fairs and visiting customers at various stages of business development and has a constant appetite for knowledge and new projects.
Niall has over 25 years’ experience in Architecture, working in both Ireland and the UK. In 1988 Niall travelled to London and worked for five years with Chapman Taylor Partners working on number of high profile shopping centre and office developments throughout London and the UK. In 1998 following his return to Ireland, Niall establish his own architectural practice, HRM Architects, and in 2003 Niall merged his practice with then Fewer McGinley and formed what is now Fewer Harrington and Partners, one of Ireland’s largest and best known Architectural practices. As the managing partner, Niall has been responsible for urban design and master planning projects in Europe and North Africa, working closely with clients on large commercial schemes, most notably on the North Quays in Waterford. Niall is a mentor on the Waterford Chamber Regional Leaders Programme.
Nuala has over 25 years experience of working in Retail Management, Fashion Buying, Wholesaling and Hospitality. Returning to Waterford in 2007, Nuala opened three boutiques in Waterford, Wexford, Clonmel. Nuala is a tutor with Waterford ETB, teaching ‘Retail Display’ and ‘Retail Selling’ QQ Level 5. Furthermore, Nuala is also on a panel of mentors and trainers for Waterford LEO and Kilkenny LEO. Nuala’s company Meraki Marketing, specialise in social media management, digital marketing, advertising and training.
Paul Nolan is Group Development Manager with Dawn Meats Group, with whom he has worked since 1985. A former President of IBEC South East, Waterpark Rugby Club and the Theatre Royal, he is currently a Quality Assurance Board Member with An Bord Bia and former President of Waterford Chamber. Paul has been very much involved with numerous events in Waterford City and County. These include the West Waterford Festival of Food, the Waterford Harvest Festival and the Waterford Tall Ships Races. Before joining Dawn Meats, Paul worked in Saudi Arabia with Masstock, having previously worked for Bord Bia in London and in the family butchery business before that.
Richard has been immersed in the hospitality industry since 1975 working in Ireland, Greece, Germany, Switzerland and the UK. Richard is the General Manager of the Granville Hotel, Waterford since 1990 and is instrumental in the day to day running of the city centre hotel. Richard is no stranger to sitting on committees, including Visit Waterford, and is passionate about promoting Waterford and the wider region to a greater audience.
Originally from Tramore, Valerie Farrell studied Business and Legal Studies in UCD and qualified as a Solicitor in 2001. She joined Nolan Farrell & Goff Solicitors, Waterford in 2006, initially working across a broad range of legal disciplines and now specialising in the area of Litigation and Employment Law. She represents many large organisations, government agencies, SME’s and individuals across the South East Region in relation to a variety of commercial and private law issues. Valerie is actively involved with Waterford Chamber and is a current member of the Chamber Advisory Panel on Connectivity, Infrastructure & Development Policy and she participates in the Chamber’s Regional Leaders Programme. She is passionate about Waterford and its development.
