Waterford Chamber in partnership with Waterford City & County Council are excited to announce that we will soon be transitioning the Waterford Shop Local Gift Voucher Scheme from paper-based to credit card. This will allow much more flexibility of use for all and we see it as a huge step forward in the initiative to support the Shop Local campaign.

As a participating business in the Waterford Gift Voucher scheme, we hope for your continued support and we now invite you to sign up to accept the Waterford Gift Card as we endeavour to think Waterford first in terms of retail spending.

The Waterford Gift Card has many benefits and advantages over the Gift Voucher. The Gift Card will be a prepaid Mastercard that will enable customers to spend their card balance across multiple stores. Businesses will no longer have the administration of managing paper vouchers and will receive payments to their bank accounts as per standard card payment transactions.

WHAT ARE THE FEES?
Waterford Chamber charge a 5% commission on gift card transactions, to be collected by direct debit on a monthly basis based on the previous month's total Waterford Gift Card transactions in your business. The fees incurred are the standard Mastercard fees for processing prepaid cards. We also advise that businesses refer to the agreement they have with their terminal provider.

IS THE WATERFORD GIFT CARD CHIP AND PIN?
The Waterford Gift Cards are not chip and pin cards. They can be processed via a swipe, or in the event a card swiper is not available, the information on the back of the card can be keyed into the terminal. No pin is required.

WATERFORD GIFT VOUCHERS
We will end the sale of paper-based Waterford Gift Vouchers soon, however, as vouchers are valid for up to 5 years we will continue to redeem vouchers until 2028. We ask all participating businesses to continue to accept vouchers until 2028, provided the vouchers are no more than 5 years old. A date is stamped on the reverse side of each voucher and this should be checked when you are accepting vouchers.
