The Waterford International Film Festival and South East Technological University (SETU) are delighted to announce that they will be entering into a partnership for this year’s festival, taking place this November.
Representing a significant collaboration between two pillars of creativity and innovation in the south east region, the partnership was officially marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Stephen Byrne, Director of the Waterford International Film Festival, said, “I am thrilled that SETU is partnering with the festival. This collaboration allows us to host more live screenings, offering a platform to filmmakers from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. While we're just beginning our partnership, I look forward to expanding into more film and arts-related initiatives with SETU in the future. Together, we aim to create more opportunities for emerging filmmakers and artists.”
As part of the partnership, two blocks of short film screenings will take place at the Auditorium in SETU’s Architecture School in the Granary Campus, which is located in the heart of Waterford’s vibrant Cultural Quarter. These screenings will feature a selection of short films from local, national, and international filmmakers, offering a diverse and rich cinematic experience.
Dr Suzanne Denieffe, Head of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at SETU in Waterford, said: “SETU, and in particular the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, is delighted to work with the Waterford International Film Festival. This year, we are especially proud to host film screenings at our Granary Campus, demonstrating our commitment to fostering the arts and supporting emerging filmmakers within the city and the region.
“Our involvement in this prestigious event reflects our ongoing dedication to strengthening cultural connections both within Waterford and beyond. We believe in the power of the arts to inspire, connect, and drive positive change, and we are honoured to be part of an event that showcases creative talent from around the world.”
This partnership underlines medium-term goals between SETU and the annual festival, including joint event hosting, student internships, volunteer opportunities, and co-developed training programmes. SETU will also provide branding support across its digital platforms, further enhancing the festival’s visibility and reach.
In addition to the events at the Granary Auditorium, the festival’s core programme at the House of Waterford Crystal will feature networking mixers, film screenings, and the annual awards presentation. The live events will take place from November 23-24, with online screenings of selected finalists and award winners available on the eoFlix platform from November 22-29.
