South East Technological University (SETU) has unveiled two exciting full-time programmes for those aspiring to create a fulfilling career in the community and voluntary sector.

Applications are being accepted for this September on the following new programmes: The four-year level 8 BA (Hons) in Individual, Family and Community Support and the three-year level 7 BA in Individual, Family and Community Support.

These programmes are designed for students passionate about social justice and interested in careers that involve supporting and empowering others. Graduates will be equipped with the skills needed to work with individuals, families, and communities, enabling them to foster positive changes and challenge social injustices.

Michael Mullan, Student Recruitment and Admissions Manager at SETU, in welcoming the new offerings, stated, “The new Level 8 (four years) and Level 7 (three years) programmes offer a broad curriculum encompassing Sociology, Social Policy, Psychology, Law, and Personal and Professional Development. The Bachelor of Arts in Individual, Family, and Community Support opens doors for students to engage in meaningful careers in the community and voluntary sectors. Moreover, students will gain essential skills to assist and empower a wide variety of individuals and communities facing social challenges.”

Graduates will be equipped to work in the community and voluntary sectors, as well as for not-for-profit organisations.

Programme highlights
The BA in Individual, Family and Community Support (Level 7) is a three-year programme designed to provide graduates with comprehensive knowledge and skills to work alongside, support and empower individuals and communities experiencing disadvantage and social injustice.

Meanwhile, the BA (Hons) in Individual, Family and Community Support (Level 8) spans four years and offers an in-depth exploration of values such as social justice, equality, and anti-oppressive practice. In their final year, students will engage in advanced theoretical and applied modules, sharpening their critical and analytical skills and knowledge, preparing them for managerial roles, and providing a potential stepping stone to postgraduate study or research.

Students of both the level 7 and level 8 programmes must successfully complete supervised work-based placements in an SETU approved practice placement setting. Two full semester placements are undertaken during the programme in semesters three and six.
