BIG MAGGIE is coming to Garter Lane in 8-12 April 2025
Waterford Dramatic Society will celebrate its 90th year of continuous activity in 2025 making it one of the longest continuously active amateur drama group in Ireland (apart from the Covid years).
W.D.S. will present a production of John B. Keane’s classic play BIG MAGGIE to mark this momentous occasion. Denise Quinn will play the central character Maggie Polpin. W.D.S. last produced this play in 1993 with Frieda Ryan in the title role. The production was staged in the Theatre Royal and toured to the small island of Inishbofin. It was one of the most memorable nights of theatre for the “Fit Up” cast, crew and the bus full of supporters. It was similarly memorable for almost 90 islanders from 8to 80 who attended. Frieda will now move to the director’s chair for this production continuing the very creatively fulfilling and successful partnership with Denise Quinn.
As well as giving good advance notice for this production, W.D.S. also wishes to call on actors and others who would be interested in being part of this 90th birthday production. It is hoped to stage preliminary readings in Garter Lane – on Saturday December 14th from 10 a.m. Rehearsals will begin in mid-January 2025.
Waterford Dramatic Society is un-funded and depends on and is very grateful to its past members, generous local sponsors and businesses and of course it’s loyal audiences for their support over its 90 year existence.
Anyone interested in being involved in this amateur production should send their details and their area of interest to wdsbigmaggie90@gmail.com Facebook, Instagram or by phone to the director: Frieda Ryan 0872734269
