Samaritans Waterford and South East Midsummer Gala Ball
Samaritans Waterford and South East are commemorating 50 years of listening in Waterford this year. This is a great tribute to all our volunteers who are there 24/7, 365 days a year, to take calls from those in distress or just needing to hear another human voice. We are totally Volunteer lead and self funding. Our ball, goes a long way to keeping our doors open and we would very much appreciate the support of the Chamber members this year. Waterford & South east Samaritans celebrate 50 years in Waterford
In late 1975 a public meeting was held in Waterford which was addressed by RTE newsreader Charles Mitchell and it was decided to form a branch of the Samaritans. Subsequently on 1st March 1976 Waterford and South East Samaritans was officially opened by Fr Martin Slattery who was the first Branch Director. The initial group of volunteers were trained by Cork based volunteers and since then over 1000 volunteers have been trained in Waterford.
