The closing lunch of Waterford Chamber's Regional Leaders Programme at Faithlegg, brought together participants, mentors, coaches, and business leaders to celebrate the conclusion of another highly successful leadership development journey.
The programme has provided participants with an invaluable opportunity to develop their leadership skills, broaden their perspectives, and build strong networks with peers from across the region. Throughout the programme, mentoring, coaching, and shared learning have played a central role in supporting participants as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of leadership.
Speaking at the event, Waterford Chamber Deputy President Marian Walsh of Carron + Walsh reflected on her own leadership experience, including the recent acquisition of Carron + Walsh by Tetra Tech, and the importance of support networks throughout any leadership journey.
Marian said: “There were moments along the way where I was challenged, where I doubted myself, and where the path forward wasn’t always clear. What made the difference in those moments were the people around me, the mentors who offered guidance, coaches who challenged my thinking, and colleagues who supported and encouraged me.
"That’s why I firmly believe that mentoring and coaching are not ‘nice to have’ elements of leadership. They are essential. No leader succeeds in isolation. The ability to both seek out support and offer it to others is what creates strong, resilient organisations.”
Guests at the closing lunch also heard from keynote speaker Joanne Somers, who spoke openly and honestly about her own leadership journey and the realities of business life through her experience with Johnson’s Celtic Linen. Joanne shared the highs and lows of leading a business that moved from receivership to become the thriving and successful company it is today. Her honesty, resilience, and determination proved deeply inspiring for all in attendance.
The event also featured thoughtful and insightful contributions from mentors and coaches Deirdre Phelan of Deirdre Phelan Consultancy, Eugene O’Callaghan, former CEO of ISIF (Ireland Strategic Investment Fund), and Eileen Jameson, coach and poet. Each shared words of wisdom and practical advice on how participants can continue to apply the learning, confidence, and leadership tools gained throughout the programme into the future.
Waterford Chamber sincerely thanks all mentors, speakers, coaches, and supporters who contributed to the success of the Regional Leaders Programme, and especially programme partners Waterford Chamber Skillnet, ICF Ireland and Bausch + Lomb.
Congratulations were extended to all participants on completing the programme, and Waterford Chamber looks forward to seeing the continued positive impact of their leadership across businesses, organisations, and communities throughout the region.
