GreenTechHQ, the South East’s centre of expertise for business, innovation, sustainability and AI, has announced the next phase of its flagship Business Advantage and Sustainability South East (BASSE) programme, with a series of online information sessions now open to interested business leaders.

Funded by Enterprise Ireland, BASSE is a unique leadership and growth accelerator designed specifically for scaling SMEs across the South East. The programme integrates commercial acceleration with sustainability at its core, supporting company leaders to strengthen competitiveness, unlock growth, reduce risk and build long-term resilience.  Two of the programme’s four pillars have been particularly impactful. The first is the introduction of highly experienced mentors, all of whom have built and led successful businesses. Many are EY alumni who are now giving back by dedicating time, on a quarterly basis, to support the BASSE scaling SMEs.

The second is the creation of a facilitated peer leadership group, providing company owners with a confidential coaching circle. This trusted environment enables leaders to share challenges, gain perspective, receive constructive advice and be held to account — supporting not only business growth, but also personal and family wellbeing.

The programme has run very successfully in its first year with 16 companies from Waterford, Kilkenny, Carlow and Wexford. Showing significant uplift in operational structures and company cultural changes that are having direct impact on the bottom line.  This is a programme not for the faint hearted, transformational change in a business requires hard decisions, next level strategy and a leader ready to work on rather than in the business.

Ian Mernagh, CEO of GreenTechHQ “BASSE reflects the type of regionally embedded, leadership-led intervention that Enterprise Ireland seeks to support. The programme is delivering tangible results for scaling SMEs by combining strong leadership development with sustainability-led growth. The first cohort clearly demonstrates how focused investment in people, strategy and resilience can translate into real commercial impact across the South East.”

Over the next three to five years, BASSE is projected to support the creation of more than 300 new jobs, drive significant revenue growth across participating companies and position the South East as a national leader in sustainable enterprise. By embedding energy efficiency, carbon reduction, fair work and strong governance into business strategy, BASSE demonstrates how sustainability can be a powerful driver of performance and value creation.
