Key findings on mental health in the recent Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) report HR practices in Ireland 2024.
The two most common reasons for absences were mental health (22%, up from 17% in the 2023 report) and acute medical conditions (22% up from 14%) Over half of organisations attribute mental health issues to workload, non-work factors, and perceived managerial shortcomings. These are significant findings and underscore the need for workplaces to take proactive measures to mitigate the risk of work impacting negatively on employees.
Call for Action
The EAP Institute recommends the guidance issued by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IoSH) and guidance published in the ISO 45003 global standard as two excellent tools for assessing and managing the risks to psychological and psychosocial health.
