Waterford’s Viking Triangle will be the scene of a shipwreck, pirates, sword fights, sea shanties, mischief, mistaken identity and misplaced love this September, when new Waterford theatre collective Shakespeare Squared brings an outdoor production of Shakespeare’s raucous romantic comedy ‘Twelfth Night’ to the ancient setting.

Local theatre professionals Joe Meagher, Eimear Cheasty and Deirdre Dwyer are working with production partner Theatre Royal to stage the massive spectacle, on 6th-10th and 13th-17th September. The show, which is suitable for audience members aged 10 +, will feature a cast of professional actors and musicians performing a version of the Bard’s most beloved comedy which has been carefully adapted by Joe to suit an outdoor setting, taking advantage of the historic area’s striking architectural features and atmospheric landscaping.

‘Twelfth Night’, or ‘What You Will’, follows Viola, a young woman who finds herself alone and separated from her twin brother in a strange land. Disguising herself as a man in the court of Duke Orsino, she sets in motion a tale of misunderstandings and tangled love triangles. Cast and audience will move together through the city’s cobbled, quayside laneways in this music-filled promenade, which will feature a cast and crew of professional actors, musicians and theatre practitioners, thus providing an important employment opportunity for professionals in the area. Guaranteed to captivate audiences!!
