Ireland's National Workplace Wellbeing Day takes place on Friday April 28th this year and the EAP Institute is announcing an online training course “Personal Self Care - Controlling all stress risks for Thursday 22nd of June 2023.

Two expert speakers Maurice Quinlan Director of the EAP Institute and Sinead Kelly, Self-Health Coach, Corporate Wellbeing will present an online event for Safety and Human Resource Managers, Occupational Health and Employee Assistance Professionals.

Announcing the event Maurice Quinlan said “Work stress is the legal responsibility of organizations and personal stress is the responsibility of individuals. By following the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) guidance companies can lower all mental health and stress risks.

Duncan Spencer, Head of Advice and Practice at the Institution of Occupational Health and Safety, said: “Good mental health and wellness at work should be governed by a whole-system approach where Occupational Safety and Health Professionals, Human Resources, and all managers contribute. The real cause of work-related mental ill health is related to culture and the way an organisation operates. Only good management can change that."

This  opinion was echoed by the Co – Convenor of the ISO 45003 Global Standard  Stavroula  Leka  who said: "With mounting data that poor work organisation, design and management is associated with poor mental health, absenteeism, presentism and human error, it was felt that a specific guidance standard on psychosocial risks was needed."
