Four of Waterford’s newest (and youngest!) bands, made up of second level students from across the city and county, were formed at Theatre Royal over the Easter holidays as part of emerging music initiative Jam@TheRoyal.

A collaboration between Theatre Royal and Music Generation Waterford, Jam@atTheRoyal brought together 30 young musicians, most of whom had never met each other and never played in a band before.

Working with professional gigging musicians and technicians over an intensive four days, they took over the theatre for the week - experiencing workshops on song-writing and arranging, sound production and technical set-up and how to form bands and rehearse, as well as taking part in instrument-specific workshops and jam sessions.

Jam@TheRoyal culminated in the four new bands, complete with a kicking brass section, performing on the Theatre Royal stage in front of a live audience at the end of the week.

Jam@TheRoyal was made possible through Theatre Royal and Music Generation Waterford, funded by The Arts Council, Waterford City and County Council and Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board.
